About the Game

What is RollaWord?

RollaWord is a free word game in the spirit of Scrabble. You are given a rack of eight lettered tiles and a timer, and your goal is to build as many valid words as you can and earn the highest score. Each tile also has a color, and a valid word made entirely of one color earns a bonus: blue words score x2 and red words score x3.

Is RollaWord free? Do I need an account?

It is completely free, and you don't need to create an account or sign in. Just open the page and play. The site is supported by advertising.

What devices does it work on?

RollaWord runs in your web browser on phones, tablets, and computers. There is nothing to download or install.

Who is RollaWord for?

RollaWord is made for a general adult audience. You must be at least 18 years old to use the site. See our Terms and Conditions for details.

Playing

What is the difference between Free Play and the Daily Challenge?

Free Play lets you play as many puzzles as you like, whenever you like. The Daily Challenge is one puzzle per day, and everyone who plays that date's challenge gets exactly the same eight tiles, so scores can be compared fairly.

How do I use all eight tiles?

Every rack is designed so it is always fully playable: there is a way to use all eight tiles across your words, so you should never be stuck. If you get all eight tiles onto the board in valid words, your subtotal is multiplied by the number of seconds left on the clock, so finishing quickly pays off. Finding the longest or trickiest word first often unlocks the rest of the rack.

What are the blank tiles?

Some racks include one or two blank tiles, as in Scrabble. A blank can stand in for any letter you need, which makes it very valuable when you are trying to use all eight tiles.

Why wasn't my word accepted?

RollaWord checks words against its own dictionary of common English words, so everyone plays by the same rules. Very rare words, abbreviations, proper names, and some specialized or slang words may not be included. Our decision on whether a word is valid within the game is final, but if you think a common word is missing, please let us know and we'll take a look.

What does "Show me the Solution" do?

After a game ends, the Show me the Solution button opens a page showing a set of words that uses the rack. You can tap a word to see its definition. Solutions are currently available for Free Play, and we plan to add them for the Daily Challenge.

Where do the word definitions come from?

Definitions are provided by a third-party service, FreeDictionaryAPI.com. They are included for learning and convenience, and they may occasionally be unavailable or incomplete.

The Daily Challenge and Leaderboard

When does the Daily Challenge change?

Each challenge is tied to a calendar date, and the date is part of the puzzle's link. Anyone who opens a link for a particular date gets that date's puzzle, no matter where they are or what their device clock says.

Can I share a puzzle with a friend?

Yes, that's what the date-based links are for. Send your friend the link for that day's challenge, and you can both try for the best score on the same puzzle.

How do I get on the leaderboard?

The leaderboard for each puzzle date shows the best scores for that puzzle. If your score makes the Top 10 in the Daily Challenge, you'll be asked to enter a name. You can view the board on the leaderboard page.

What name should I enter?

Use a nickname or first name rather than your full real name, since leaderboard names are public. Names that are offensive, misleading, or impersonate someone else may be removed.

Why does my name show a short tag, or "(you)"?

Because anyone can type any name, two players might choose the same one. To keep them apart, the game stores an anonymous player ID in your browser, which adds a short tag when names match and marks your own row with "(you)". This ID isn't linked to your real identity.

Can anyone cheat on the leaderboard?

We do our best to keep it fair. Using scripts, bots, or other tools to submit scores is against our Terms, and we may remove entries that look suspicious.

Privacy, Ads, and Support

What information does RollaWord collect?

The game stores only what it needs for the leaderboard: the name you enter, your score, the puzzle date, and the anonymous player ID in your browser. Advertising partners may also use cookies. For the full picture, please read our Privacy Policy.

Why are there ads?

Ads help pay for running the game, which keeps it free for everyone. Please don't click ads just to support us. Only click one if it genuinely interests you.

The game isn't working. What should I do?

First try refreshing the page, or reopening the link in another browser. If the problem continues, please contact us and tell us your device, browser, and what happened, and we'll look into it.

How can I suggest a feature or report a mistake?

We'd love to hear from you. Send us a note through the Contact page.
